Licensing growth boosts Man United in Q1

Retail, merchandising, apparel & product licensing for the period was £27.4 million.

Manchester United has been given a boost in its first quarter thanks to growth in its commercial revenue – which includes licensing.

Overall, commercial revenue for the period (three months ending September 30) stood at £74.3 million. This marked an increase of £3.1 million – 4.4% – over the prior year quarter.

Within this, retail, merchandising, apparel and product licensing revenue for the quarter was £27.4 million – an increase of £5.1 million (22.9%) over the prior year quarter.

The rise was mostly attributed to the beginning of the club’s agreement with Adidas and bringing in-house several of its businesses.

The club also secured five sponsorship deals in the period, including global deals with both EA Sports and Tag Heuer.

Overall Q1 revenues at the club stood at £120.2 million, with operating profit of £6.2 million.
