Licensed names recognised in British Animation Awards

Finalists include Hey Duggee, Twirlywoos, Shaun the Sheep, Dennis & Gnasher and more.

The finalists for this year’s British Animation Awards have been announced with a good number of licensed favourites making the cut.

Held every two years, the British Animation Awards reward the best in British animation across a variety of categories.

This year’s event will take place at London’s BFI Southbank on March 15.

Hey Duggee, Twirlywoos and Sarah and Duck have all been shortlisted in the Best Preschool category, while The Amazing World of Gumball, Shaun the Sheep and Dennis & Gnasher Unleashed will contest the Best Children’s Series category.

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt has been named alongside Revolting Rhymes and Ethel & Ernest in Best Long Form, while The Great British Bake Off’s singing cakes have received a nod for Best Animation in a Commercial.

Lupus Films’ Ethel & Ernest is this year’s most nominated animation, in the running for a total of four awards.

Animation students and fans will also have a chance to reward their favourite work in the Public Choice Awards for Favourite Short Film and Music Video. A new category – Best Expanded Animation – has also been added.

BAA director, Jayne Pilling, said: “At each awards we never cease to be bowled over by the sheer creativity and innovation in British animation.

“The 2018 awards look set to be another wonderful celebration of this thriving industry.”
