Licensed characters star in top campaigns of 2017

Born Licensing’s Epic Skeletor and Stories are Everywhere campaigns highlighted.

Major advertising industry publications have been reflecting on the best ad campaigns from 2017 – with two starring licensed characters being praised.

UK ad trade title Campaign named the second instalment of Moneysupermarket.com’s Epic Skeletor campaign – which featured Masters of the Universe characters Skeletor and He-Man paying homage to Dirty Dancing – as the seventh best film ad of 2017.

Epic Skeletor was also recognised at the 2017 Campaign Big Awards – which celebrates the best in British advertising – as a winner in the Financial and Legal product sector.

In addition, US trade title Adweek named Instagram’s Stories are Everywhere starring SpongeBob Squarepants and Sonic the Hedgehog as the third best ad of the year.

David Born, director of Born Licensing, which worked on both campaigns, commented: “2017 was bursting with outstanding adverts, so to see campaigns that included licensed characters considered to be among the best is really an achievement.

“It’s incredibly exciting to see licensed characters making such an impact in a non traditional area like advertising.”
