Leeds Castle joins Beatrix Potter 150 celebrations

Visitor attraction takes on Beatrix theme from December 3 to January 2.

Penguin Ventures is collaborating with Leeds Castle to continue the celebrations around Beatrix Potter’s 150th anniversary this year.

The attraction will host a Tale of Christmas from December 3 to January 2.

Visitors will be invited to relive the classic Beatrix Potter takes through themed Christmas tree decorations, festive floral arrangements and displays in the rooms of the castle.

The characters will be expressed in a number of creative ways including an interpretation of Beatrix’s writing desk, complete with sketchbooks and paint brushes.

There will be miniature displays throughout the castle for children, as well as Peter Rabbit’s muddy footprints as part of a trail across the estate.

On various dates throughout December an interactive storytelling of Beatrix Potter’s classic tales will be brought to life. The storyteller, dressed in character as Beatrix, will read from a giant book in the castle library.

A 25ft Christmas tree, which takes centre stage in the entrance hall each year, will be dressed to support the brand with themed decorations, while hallways, window ledges and fireplaces will also be decorated in the theme.

Two on-site gift shops will be stocked with up to 40 lines of Peter Rabbit licensed merchandise and a series of events including storytelling, a Christmas market, wreath-making and visits from Father Christmas, will also help visitors become re-acquainted with Beatrix Potter.

Alysha Sargent, head of engagement and events for Leeds Castle, said: “Leeds Castle is delighted to be working alongside Penguin Ventures and Peter Rabbit Brands on our forthcoming Christmas events.

“We’ve appointed theatrical set designers who will work with the Leeds Castle Floristry team to make this Christmas an enchanting and magical event.

“Over the Christmas period we hope to welcome approximately 50,000 visitors who will be immersed in a truly unique experience celebrating the life and work of Beatrix Potter.”

The collaboration follows on from the news that Longleat is to use Beatrix Potter as the theme for its Festival of Light this year.
