Lagoon joins forces with University Games

The acquisition is the 14th for University Games and its third in the UK.

University Games has purchased Lagoon Games from Asmodee Group, marking its 14th acquisition and its third in the UK alone.

Lagoon was founded in 1988, supplying books, games, gifts and puzzles to the UK market. It has 175 different lines and specialises in supplying gift shops, book stores and garden centres.

“I have admired Lagoon Games and its product line since first meeting Lagoon’s founder Simon Meluish in the 1990s on a trip to Chaing Mai, Thailand,” said Bob Moog, president and co-founder of University Games. “We plan to keep Lagoon Games true to its British roots while sharing these very special gifts, games, puzzles and books with people around this world.”

Steve Buckmaster, head of distribution at Asmodee Group, added: “We are very pleased University Games and Lagoon are joining forces. The two organisations share the same passions, values and business intuition.

“We trust that they will further develop the Lagoon brand and strengthen their leading market positions in the UK and abroad.”

Richard Wells, md of University Games UK, said that Lagoon’s product line “perfectly complements” the University Games and Paul Lamond ranges, with the synergy between the companies being “close to perfect”.

The team is keen to get working with the brand, too. Mark Jones, head of sales at University Games, commented: “Lagoon has been at the top of my wish list since I joined University Games. Their wonderfully packaged design led games and gifts are industry leaders and I am proud to now get to sell these superb lines.”

University Games UK is planning to begin shipping orders no later than June 16 for Lagoon from its fulfilment partner, Import Services. All current orders in house will be transferred to University Games.
