DreamWorks sequel has best ever opening weekend in China for an animated film.
DreamWorks Animations’ Kung Fu Panda 3 got off to a strong start at the international box office over the weekend – setting a record for China’s best opening animated film.
The movie took a record breaking $57 million in China over the weekend.
This surpassed the Minions Movie, which took $50 million in its first eight days.
In the US, Kung Fu Panda 3 notched up $41 million across its opening weekend.
The Source reported in January how Kung Fu Panda 3 marked the first time that an animated film has been produced in two languages, English and Mandarin. Chinese audiences will be watching a specially animated film for a Mandarin performer.
The film will hit UK cinemas on March 11.
