King Features signs up Garfield in the US

Deal secured with Paws Inc for select categories including apparel and DTRs.

King Features has welcomed Garfield to its portfolio, inking a deal with Paws Inc for select categories in the US.

The company will now handle apparel and accessories, art books and prints, gaming/slot machines, giftware and novelties, beauty, direct to retail programmes and co-branding/cross branding initiatives.

King Features has also signed several new licensees for Garfield. These include 2 Monkeys for male t-shirts; Body Rags Clothing for knit tops and bottoms; and Sneakerskins for decorative coverings for trainers and shoes.

“It’s great to have a fresh perspective on the Garfield brand which King Features Syndicate brings to the table,” said Jim Davis, President of Paws, Inc and creator of Garfield.

“King has been reinvigorating their classic properties with a youthful urban vibe – Garfield will benefit from their expertise and we’re excited to be working with them to enhance our program going forward.”

Carla Silva, vp and general manager, global head of licensing at Hearst, added: “King Features continues to grow its licensing division and Garfield is a fabulous fit with our portfolio of classic characters.

“As Paws begins to ramp up fun activities to celebrate Garfield’s big 40th anniversary in June 2018, we are delighted to help extend the paw print for Jim Davis’ signature brand into new consumer product categories.”
