Social Media Manager, Penguin Random House Children’s (12-month FTC)

Do you have significant experience of running and growing social media channels for globally respected brands?  Would you love to create content for some of the world’s biggest preschool characters?  Are you brimming with exciting ideas to drive online engagement and sales?  And would you enjoy working with a range of collaborators, including partners and licensees, finding innovative opportunities to help them reach their commercial goals whilst making our brands and books completely irresistible to families?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Social Media Manager to join the Penguin Random House Children’s team on a fixed-term contract basis, for 12 months.

About Penguin Random House Children’s (PRHC)

We are the market-leader in picture books and the publishers of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Bluey, Peppa Pig, The Jolly Postman, The Dinosaur that Pooped, Ten Minutes to Bed, Greg the Sausage Roll, and many other magical and beloved stories for the smallest readers.  We are also unique as a publishing house to be the global brand owners for some of the world’s largest literary brands, including Peter Rabbit, The Snowman and Spot.

The role

We’re searching for a creative, organised and collaborative Social Media Manager to join the PRHC Marketing team. This role will be responsible for digital content creation and community management for three of our biggest preschool brands: Peter Rabbit, The Snowman and Spot. Your primary focus will be Peter Rabbit, with a particular emphasis on Instagram and newsletter growth.  Reporting into the Head of Marketing, you’ll translate our overarching brand strategies into a digital content plan for each brand, driving interaction with – and sales of – our brand, books, consumer products and experiences.

Key responsibilities:

  • Content strategy: You’ll develop a dynamic content strategy for our brand channels for Peter Rabbit, The Snowman and Spot, based on our established overarching brand strategies and your social media expertise.
  • Content creation: You’ll oversee the creation of all newsletter, web and social media content for our channels, including visual assets and written copy.
  • Posting: You’ll manage our social media processes, calendars and scheduling of all posts to support our brand, books, products, licensees and experiences.
  • Community management: You’ll look after our channel communities, including monitoring and responding to messages, nurturing our rapport with our audience, and proactively engaging with influencer, partner, retailer and licensee accounts.
  • Approvals: You’ll oversee brand feedback and approvals for licensee and partner social media posts.
  • Tracking and reporting: You’ll be responsible for keeping record of our metrics and updating internal teams on our monthly results. Alongside the Head of Marketing, you’ll define KPIs for our most important channels, and you’ll measure how our content performs against these and compared to competitor and industry benchmarks.
  • Social listening: You’ll use social listening tools to understand wider discussion of our brands online and how this changes over time and in response to major product, book and brand activity.
  • Growth campaigns: You’ll manage some paid social media campaigns in service of ambitious follower and subscriber growth.
  • Influencer gifting: You’ll look after a number of creative mailouts to select high-profile influencers in collaboration with Marketing and Publicity colleagues.

You’ll also be involved in team administrative tasks and will sometimes deputise for the Head of Marketing and Senior Brand Marketing Manager where appropriate.

What you’ll bring

At Penguin Random House, we make books for everyone, because a book can change anyone. Our creativity is inspired by many perspectives, so we want to work with a wide range of talent as we find new ways to tell our stories.  You don’t need to have worked for a publisher to be considered for this role!

Of course, we’ll need you to have proven experience of running and growing brand social media accounts and newsletters.  The below is our other minimum criteria:

  • Lots of creative ideas for content.
  • Exceptional organisational skills to keep on top of a multitude of projects and content programmes across three brands.
  • Confidence and enjoyment working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders (including the industry-leading teams who create our books and manage our consumer products programme)
  • A passion for children’s brands and the children’s entertainment landscape.
  • A motivated, energetic and open-minded approach.
  • Plenty of experience with briefing designers and video editors.
  • Solid design, video editing and copywriting capabilities.
