Do you have experience in brand licensing, with the ability to deliver compelling proposals to attract commercial partners? Would you be able to play a key role in the growth of the licensing programme across several categories including gifting and homeware?

About us

The Science Museum Group (SMG) is here to inspire future scientists, engineers and inventors. As the world’s leading group of science museums, we share our unparalleled collection spanning science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine with over five million visitors each year. Building lasting relationships with commercial partners is essential to our continuing and dynamic programme of new galleries, exhibitions and world class learning programmes through which we are able inspire future generations of innovators and the problem-solvers of tomorrow.

To support this work, we are now recruiting a Licensing Manager to join us on a permanent contract, working full time (35-hours per week). This role can be based at any of the SMG sites (London, Manchester, Bradford or York) with hybrid working available.

About the role

As a key member of the brand licensing team, you’ll be a highly organised and motivated individual who will work to sell stunning and adaptable style guides that promote our brand aspirations particularly in gifting, homewares, stationery and collectables.

The brand licensing team is creative and resourceful and thrives to deliver financial growth that is resilient, sustainable and supports SMG’s mission. We work with external commercial partners to create products that are sold on the high street using the Science Museum, National Railway Museum and Flying Scotsman brands. We develop positive working relationships with our brand licensees on exciting toys, games, books and a live theatre show that raises our profile commercially leveraging our brand, content and IP.

About you

Joining us, you will bring good experience in brand licensing and have the confidence to make proactive approaches for new sales and negotiate contract terms. You will be a good communicator with experience of managing successful external relationships and colleagues at all levels. Crucially, you will have good project management skills with an ability to monitor progress against goals, develop plans and timelines and to measure success.

Don’t feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn’t match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.

What we offer

Working with a world-leading museum group that offers access to truly unique environments and collections, you’ll benefit from the perks listed below, as well as full support for life events such as parental and adoption leave, sickness, and career breaks.

  • Meaningful work. We’re a mission-led organisation where the work you do supports us in Inspiring Futures.
  • Career growth. We offer enhanced support with personal and professional development.
  • Work/life balance. We offer 27 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays, along with flexible policies which support you and your home life.

  • Enhanced contributory pension. To support you in saving for the future.
  • Interest-free loans. When you need a little extra cash for life events or home improvements.
  • Great discounts. Free entry to exhibitions, discounts in our shops, cafes, and access to other museums in the NMDC network.
