My Mum Tracy Beaker will be published on Thursday, October 4.
Dame Jacqueline Wilson has confirmed that she is writing a new book featuring the popular Tracy Beaker character.
In the new story – My Mum Tracy Beaker – Tracy is the mother of Jess, who tells the story.
The book is due to be published by Penguin Random House Children’s on Thursday, October 4.
PRHC is planning an extensive marketing and PR campaign around the release, with Jacqueline making appearances at literature festivals and events around the UK.
The Story of Tracy Beaker was first published by Doubleday in 1991 and was the first book to pair Jacqueline with her long-time illustrator, Nick Sharratt.
The Tracy Beaker books – which also include The Dare Game and Starring Tracy Beaker – have together sold over 3.5 million copies.
The Story of Tracy Beaker was adapted into a long-running and award winning series by CBBC, becoming its most successful show ever.
This resulted in two spin off series – Tracy Beaker Returns and The Dumping Ground – which is still running on the channel.
As well as the TV series, there has also been an adaptation for the stage by the Nottingham Playhouse and a part-work magazine.
Kelly Hurst, editorial director at PRHC, said: “When Jacqueline Wilson created Tracy Beaker, she was paving the way for inclusive, inspirational, rebellious stories of girls. She also created her funniest, most defiant and most beloved character – and we are delighted that she has returned to Tracy’s story.
“My Mum Tracy Beaker is funny, emotional and joyous, and will be loved by today’s children and anyone who grew up with Jacqueline’s books.”
