We delve into the licensing life of eOne’s head of UK licensing.
Hannah Mungo,
Head of UK licensing, Entertainment One
My route into the licensing industry went something like this…
Like most people in the industry, I didn’t even know licensing existed. It all started with a degree in Design Management encompassing an array of relevant modules including brand management, fashion buying and creative direction. Work experience at Portico Designs followed and soon after I was offered a permanent job there project managing their licensed ranges. Then came the job at eOne, that was 9 years ago and I’m still here jumping in muddy puddles.
How many years in the industry?
13.5
When I was growing up, I had no idea licensing was an industry so I wanted to be…
Wonder Woman.
The deal I am most proud of is…
It’s got to be Peppa Pig World. Also, other experiential deals such as the Move With Peppa programme and the Peppa and Ben and Holly stage shows – anything with a slightly different financial structure makes a deal particularly interesting.
The best piece of advice I’ve ever received is…
Enjoy it! You won’t find another industry quite like the licensing industry… we’re very lucky.
Who do you admire most in the industry (and why)?
All those that have set up their own agencies, it’s a brave thing to do and particularly challenging when up against the big corporates. It’s great to hear about success stories from the smaller agents, they’re not celebrated enough.
If I could change anything about the industry, it would be…
To build awareness of the benefits of licensing outside the immediate industry in order to creatively expand programmes and make them relevant to a wider market.
