We delve into the licensing life of TDP Textile’s head of licensing.
Dean Greasley,
Head of Licensing, TDP Textiles
My route into the licensing industry went something like this…
At the Slumberland Funiture Group, I was responsible for licensing out the manufacturing technology, the brand, royal warrants and all! My first spell as a licensee was in bedding at Tex UK, then onto Kinnerton Confectionery until I was captured and taken down into the Sock Mine at Roy Lowe & Sons prior to joining the team here at TDP. So from beds, into bedding, then bed socks and on into pyjamas. All rolled up with a little bit of chocolate in the middle.
How many years in the industry?
25 years in total.
When I was growing up, I had no idea licensing was an industry so I wanted to be…
On a beach.
The deal I am most proud of is…
Always the most recent one.
My most interesting experience in licensing has been…
I’d have to say standing in front of the whole industry wearing lycra, after cycling to the Licensing Awards to raise money for The Light Fund.
The best piece of advice I’ve ever received is…
Do you really believe in the product you are about to launch?
If I wasn’t in licensing, I would be…
In possession of a much healthier liver.
Who do you admire most in the industry (and why)?
Anybody who has their personal integrity intact. When all the licensing is done, that’s what we’re left with.
In a film of your life, which licensed character would play you?
Postman Pat as he’s my default fancy dress costume.
If I could change anything about the industry, it would be…
One standard licence contract template… please!
