Licensing International UK Rising Star 2021 Nominees: Lucy Williamson

We find out more about Beanstalk’s manager, brand management.

Lucy Williamson, manager, brand management, Beanstalk

My route into the licensing industry went something like this…

I graduated university and stumbled upon that Beanstalk was hiring a marketing and business development coordinator which was an ideal role for me at the time.

How long in the industry?

3.5 years.

When I was growing up, I had no idea that ‘licensing’ was an industry, so I wanted to be…

A journalist.

Biggest inspiration in the licensing industry?

It’s hard to pick just one person as my biggest inspiration, but the team I work with at Beanstalk has really inspired me throughout the years.

Best thing about your current role?

The multiple licensing programmes I work on such as P&G, Volvo Cars and Microsoft Rare Studio. I also enjoy being involved in the development process from seeing concepts through to the products being available in-store.

What are you most proud of within your licensing career to date?

This is a tough question to answer as I’m proud of a number of things within my licensing career. However one thing I’m proud of is working to lead the sustainability initiatives at Beanstalk as sustainability is a key focus area as we work towards a better future.

Licensed character you can most identify with (and why)?

The Cookie Monster as he is curious and attentive, often asking questions about things he doesn’t understand (he was also the first character I met at my first BLE).

What were your first thoughts when you were revealed as a nominee for the Licensing International UK Rising Star Award?

Surprised and appreciative of being nominated for this award.

Biggest lesson that you’ve learnt this year?

Hard work always pays off.

The adage goes, once you enter the licensing industry, you never really leave… what are your short-term goals for your career in licensing?

My short-term goals are to continue to grow my licensing experience, working on new and challenging projects and ultimately developing my career further.

The Licensing International UK Rising Star award will be presented as part of The Licensing Awards 2021, which is taking place on Tuesday 14 September at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
