Tesco is teaming with Holland & Barrett to launch a series of shop in shops. The first opened in Tesco’s Dudley Extra this week and will be followed by stores in Gatwick, Newcastle, Coventry Arena, Watford and Bar Hill in Cambridge. The Holland & Barrett shop in shops will stock around 3,000 lines across its health, food, beauty and sports ranges.
Aldi and Lidl have hit a combined market share high of 11.8% for the 12 weeks ending July 16, according to the latest supermarket sales figures from Nielsen. Aldi’s sales jumped 18.2% year on year, while Lidl was up 12.3%.
Paperchase has opened a concession in Next’s largest store in Scotland. Retail Week has reported that the stationery and card specialist has taken space in the new 50,000 square foot store in Straiton retail park. Paperchase’s chief executive described Next as a “very good brand fit”.
John Lewis saw sales fall 4.3% to £73.25 million for the week to July 23, attributing the dip to the heatwave. Fashion and homewares sales dipped 7% and 11.2% respectively, while electrical, home and technology rose 6.4%. Pokémon Go and the app’s high battery usage helped to boost the category, with sales of portable chargers up 86%.
Kitchenware specialist Lakeland will debut in Australia later this year. The retailer will open 12 shop in shops in The Good Guys stores in October, according to Retail Week. Its first wave of standalone stores will follow in the first quarter of 2017, along with a dedicated website.
Amazon has launched Dash ordering technology for London-based prime customers, which allows them to order its Fresh grocery products. The technology gives consumers the option of reordering fresh, frozen or ambient goods without using a mobile device or computer to place the order. Dash was previously only available in the US.
