Deal secured with Chinese media company Wow Dadi Technology.
Hoho Entertainment has secured a deal with Chinese media company Wow Dadi Technology to launch its Cloudbabies property in mainland China.
In a two-tier agreement, Dadi has acquired the distribution and merchandising rights to series one and has also committed to investing in the production of series two, with a further 52 episodes which Hoho and Dadi will co-produce under the new UK China co-production treaty, soon to be ratified by the Chinese Government.
The deal arose after Helen Howells – who founded Hoho Entertainment with Oliver Ellis – was invited to speak at iABC during CICAF, China’s biggest animation festival held annually in Hangzhou, organised by Mega Media.
Helen commented: “We had made early forays into China but together with our Chinese market consultant, Maggie Liang, md of TMP, we have been able to secure a true partnership deal with a Chinese company that appreciates the potential of our Cloudbabies IP in this important market.
“We are looking forward to working with Rui Zhang and his team and hope that this will be long and fruitful partnership.”
Rui Zhang, deputy general manager at Wow Dadi Technology, added: “Our mission is to nurture partnerships with seasoned producers to co-produce world class animation series that we can launch in the Chinese market.
“Cloudbabies is a beautifully produced series which has already sold in many parts of the world and we are confident that will have particular appeal to Chinese preschool children.”
