Hey Duggee laces up his dancing shoes for special Strictly Come Dancing

Preschool character Hey Duggee took to the dance floor on Saturday night (22 October), appearing in a special opening number on Strictly Come Dancing to mark the BBC’s centenary.

The popular show was celebrating the BBC’s milestone with a programme which saw the celebrities dancing to theme songs of hit shows from across the station. These included Blue Peter, EastEnders and Grange Hill among others.

Hey Duggee appeared during the show’s opening number – which also starred Pudsey Bear.

“We were delighted to be contacted by the team behind Strictly to collaborate on the special opening number for their BBC Centenary themed special,” Sue Goffe, md at Studio AKA told LicensingSource.net. “To be considered as one of the BBC flagship programmes is a huge honour for Hey Duggee and Studio AKA; we were immensely proud to be part of this celebratory dance.”

Since launching in 2014, Hey Duggee has become a six-time BAFTA and international Emmy award-winning hit on CBeebies and was the most-watched kids’ show on BBC iPlayer in 2021 and 2020.

Series 4 debuted on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer in September, with the new batch of episodes including Dame Shirley Bassey voicing the character of Peggy.

Hey Duggee has over 2.2 million fans across its social channels and its official YouTube channel has over a billion lifetime views. Hey Duggee also launched on TikTok in September, and the Stick song went viral with 5.3 million views.

Recently Hey Duggee teamed up with Sir David Attenborough for The Green Planet Badge, a special episode to share the wonder of plants on CBeebies, BBC iPlayer and YouTube. The Green Planet Badge has been nominated for Best Marketing in the Progressive Preschool Awards.

Hey Duggee will embark on its first ever live theatre show from December through until late August 2023. Hey Duggee The Live Theatre Show is touring 37 theatres across the UK and Ireland.
