Heritage move for Lagom Design

Lagom Design has teamed up with heritage brand Warner House for a greeting card and gift wrap collaboration that’s completely different to the publisher’s usual bright and bold designs.

Creative director Kelly Hyatt said: “Partnering with Warner House is a great opportunity for us at Lagom to offer something different, and to work with a brand with such a rich and exciting history.

“It’s a true heritage brand that has retained its values since it began, which is something we admire and are excited to honour. Fashions may change, but people will always appreciate good, classic design.”

The opulent and intricate Warner House designs have a heritage dating to the Protestant Huguenots who fled France to escape persecution during the 17th century, and settled in Spitalfields, East London, with their sought-after skills, including silk weaving and dyeing.

Having watched his parents busy at their trade, Benjamin Warner became a jacquard maker himself then, in 1870 he bought a client list and design book and set up his own business.

Warner House and Warner Fabrics were purveyors of high-quality woven silks, used to refurbish the White House, provide fabric for the Titanic, and exhibited at the Festival Of Britain – their status as a distinguished heritage brand was sealed when they wove the cloth of gold for Edward 7th, providing fabrics for every Coronation since.

Since then, Warner was taken on by several different owners, before husband and wife team Lee and Emma Clarke acquired the business in 2020.

“It was so exciting and such an honour to take over this amazing brand, with its rich history and iconic style. We have stayed faithful to the original designs, using more modern colours and making them relevant for today’s interiors,” Lee said.

With the tagline “a thread through time, rediscovering a heritage brand”, Lagom has issued a special mid-week collection launch to celebrate the partnership with Warner House, and the publisher’s design names hark back to the fabric’s roots, including Balmoral, Jaipur, Mustique, Kew, Palampore, Birds & Blossom, and Majestic, with a range of colourways.
