Hatsune Miku chocolate causes a sensation at HMV

A new chocolate bar featuring virtual pop star, Hatsune Miku is flying out of the door at HMV in the UK.

Indeed, sales of the bars are so strong that the retailer has named them in its top five best selling items overall, just two months after launch.

Priced at £1.99, fans of Hatsune Miku are picking up the bars as collectable items as well as to eat.

Such is the demand from fans of the virtual pop star that Kawaji is currently in talks with suppliers to the US market and is actively seeking distribution in other territories.

Four other flavours of chocolate – white, mint, orange and strawberry – are due to arrive soon, followed by a range of Miku fizzy drinks, starting with blueberry flavour.

In addition, Japanese soda ramune will debut as a Miku ramune – this will be made in Japan in a glass bottle with a marble as a stopper in the traditional way.

“HMV could have asked for any brand but specifically asked for a Hatsune Miku chocolate bar and their faith has been truly rewarded – I’m delighted for the licensee and the retailer,” commented Max Arguile, founder of Reemsborko.

Kawaji’s Rich Woodall added: “This is just the beginning for Kawaji – look out for plenty of other licensed confectionery and drinks coming soon.”
