Potential for licensed product as new value chain readies its first store.
The discount retail space is about to become even more crowded, with new venture Guess How Much – or GHM! – gearing up for the opening of its first store.
The new chain will stock all household goods, including branded goods, clothing and home essentials – and also paves the way as another opportunity for licensed goods to get shelf space.
The Source first reported on the venture in October 2015, when it was revealed that former Asda boss Andy Bond was looking to enter the sector with his new Pepkor UK company.
GHM’s first store will be located in Hinkley’s £60 million Crescent development, with the aim to open ten new stores.
Operations manager, Simon Singleton, told local media that GHM will offer a unique format, creating a new breed of discounter by combining food and general merchandise.
Discount retailers have significantly stepped up their game of late within the licensing space, with Poundland in particular flexing its muscles. Last week, the retailer confirmed its third celebrity partnership – with Charlie Dimmock following on from successful branded ranges with Jane Asher and Tommy Walsh.
