A new NFL initiative will see six NFL teams directly marketing their brands in the UK – an agreement which includes merchandise sales and activations.
Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers have been granted rights to market themselves and grow their respective fan bases in the UK, reported Sport Industry Group.
The new initiative gives the clubs access to international territories for marketing, fan engagement and commercialisation as part of a long-term strategic effort to enable clubs to build their global brands, as well as boosting NFL fan growth internationally.
During a five-year period, the clubs will be able to pursue activities in the international territory which are consistent with what they can do in their domestic market.
These will include merchandise sales and co-marketing relationships with other sports and entertainment properties in the market, as well as in-person and digital marketing, events and activations.
“NFL fandom begins with our clubs,” said Christopher Halpin, evp, chief strategy and growth officer, NFL. “This important initiative enables NFL teams to develop meaningful, direct relationships with NFL fans abroad, driving fan growth and avidity globally.
“We were very pleased with the number, creativity and level of commitment of club proposals across the board in this initial application period and look forward to teams launching their efforts early next year.”
