German Doner Kebab brings viral food hack to the high street with Doritos tie-up

German Doner Kebab has met demand for an online food hack that sees it teaming up with tortilla chip brand, Doritos, to launch the limited edition GDK Doritos Loaded Doner KeBag in the UK.

The latest menu item – which has already won an industry award for Best Street Food Inspiration at the MIDAS Menu Innovation and Development Awards last month – is inspired by the viral ‘Doritos Loaded’ food hack trend across social media, which sees people cutting open snack bags and loading them up with their toppings of choice.

The viral TikTok trend has spiked interest from diners across all site locations and has foodies testing everything from spicy mixes to the ultimate flavour combinations, and now GDK is bringing the social media trend direct to diners.

GDK diners at all 144 of its sites can personalise their very own Doner KeBag by choosing a 180g Doritos Chilli Heatwave or Doritos Cool Original, which is then cut open and loaded up with a choice of doner meats, fresh tomatoes and onions all topped with GDK’s creamy cheese sauce and three signature sauces – yogurt, garlic and spicy.

The Doner KeBag (which is priced at £9.99) follows GDK’s renowned Doner Krunch Burger – a permanent product on the GDK menu with Doritos Cool Original chips smothered in cheese sauce, a choice of doner meats and GDK’s original burger sauce served in a brioche bun.

“We don’t shy away from food trends and we take note of what our diners are gravitating towards at GDK,” explained Dr Thorsk Westphal, cmo at GDK. “Our latest menu item has seen us meeting one of the biggest online food hacks in recent months. The Doner KeBag is the GDK twist on the viral food trend, and it’s one that we’ve already seen be snapped up across our restaurants.

“GDK has always been at the forefront of new doner formats, exciting flavours and unrivalled menu combinations, and our latest menu addition is testament to how reactive we can be to trends we know our diners will love.”
