Frozen toy merchandise has more than doubled in sales year to date compared to 2014, says NPD.
Movie-related toys – and Frozen and Star Wars in particular – are continuing to be the driving force behind toy market growth in the UK.
New data from NPD – released ahead of the Dream Toys event yesterday (November 4) – shows that movie-related toys experienced a 28% increase in sales year on year.
They represent 15% of all UK toy sales, compared to 12% in 2014.
Frozen and Star Wars hold the number one and two spots respectively as the top toy properties.
Frozen toy merchandise has more than doubled in sales year to date compared to last year.
Meanwhile, Star Wars sales have tripled since Force Friday on September 4. The Sphero BB-8 – the app-enabled drone from The Force Awakens – was the best selling item in the UK during September, while the LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar took the lead in the week ending October 3.
Overall, toy sales grew 5% year to date compared to the same period last year, NPD said. Nine out of the 11 super categories tracked toys posting year over year growth across all age groups.
The most dynamic growth was seen in action figures (+27%), youth electronics (+15%) and building sets (+13%).
