Forbidden Planet celebrates 40 years

Pop culture retailer rolls out range of souvenir merchandise to mark milestone.

Pop culture retailer Forbidden Planet is marking its 40th anniversary this summer – with a host of activity and special merchandise planned.

The original store on London’s Denmark Street was one of the first in the UK to stock movie merchandise, and it quickly became renowned for hosting signings with some of the greatest names in comics, books and film.

These included the likes of Douglas Adams and Stan Lee (both pictured above), as well as Terry Pratchett, Stephen King and Neil Gaiman among others.

Today, Forbidden Planet is the biggest and best known retailer of comics, science fiction books, toys and memorabilia. Its London megastore is the largest cult entertainment store in the world.

To mark it’s 40th, Forbidden Planet has created a range of souvenir merchandise, using the classic Brian Bolland ‘People Like Us’ artwork. Products include a tote bag, coasters, mugs and t-shirts.

Meanwhile, a raft of forthcoming signings at the London megastore will include Simon Furman and Simon Coleby signing The Vigilant; Titan Comics; Patrick Goddard and Keith Richardson signing Sniper Elite #1 and Tim McDonagh signing Star Wars: Alien Archive among others.
