February 2023: Licensed Gifts & Greeting Cards

To kick off our series of Featuring… newsletters focusing on licensed greetings and gifts, we’re taking a closer look at the UK greeting card market.

Squeezed incomes and rising inflation may be dominating the headlines, but there are chinks of light for the greeting card sector, according to industry trade body the Greeting Card Association (GCA).

Its latest data covering sales for single greeting cards in 2021 compared to 2020, published in its GCA Greeting Card Market Report 2022 (available to purchase here), reveals that both retail value and volume rose by 11% year on year. The total retail value of single cards sales in the UK in 2021 stood at over £1.5 billion.
