Fashion UK and Character.com named in The Sunday Times Hundred 2022

Apparel licensee and ambitious online retailer, Fashion UK and Character.com have both been named in The Sunday Times Hundred 2022, its list of Britain’s fastest growing private companies.

Fashion UK – which was ranked at number 42 – has seen annual sales growth over three years of 79.84%, according to the listing.

Last year, the business made a profit before tax of £7.1 million on sales of £131.3 million, with its growing operations including a UK print facility, a factory in India and subsidiaries in Germany and China. It also recently launched its own brand, Onepointfive – the global warming target set by the Paris Convention 2015 – where all garments contain a recycled yarn element.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, chief executive of Fashion UK Gurdev Mattu expressed his desire to double the size of the business in the next three years through ‘territorial growth, product extensions and new retail partnerships’.

Character.com, meanwhile, was number 99 on the listing with annual sales growth over three years of 42.97%.

In the year to July 2021, sales rose to £53.2 million and in September the company sold a 23% stake to private equity firm BGF for an undisclosed sum.
