eOne to handle licensing for David Brent’s movie debut

L&M programme to be developed around popular Ricky Gervais character.

Entertainment One has snapped up the worldwide licensing rights for David Brent’s big screen debut, Life on the Road.

Directed, written by and starring Ricky Gervais, the film sees a documentary crew catching up with David – former star of The Office and now working as a travelling salesman – as he chases his dream of rock stardom by self-financing a tour with his band, Foregone Conclusion.

eOne will be looking to sign partners across apparel and accessories, home and giftware, stationery, greetings and novelty toys.

“With Ricky Gervais at the helm and back in the role that made him a household name, David Brent: Life on the Road looks set to be the hit movie of next summer and we’re absolutely thrilled to be handling the worldwide licensing rights,” said Hannah Mungo, head of UK licensing at eOne.

“We’re committed to assembling a global consumer products programme that taps into the huge fan base and we look forward to sharing details with our partners in due course.”

eOne handles international sales on the film and is also directly distributing it in the UK, Australia/New Zealand, Canada, Spain and Benelux. Co-produced by eOne and BBC Films, David Brent: Life on the Road is expected to hit cinemas in August 2016.
