Company looking to expand position as a publisher following sale of children’s book business in the UK.
After selling the children’s book businesses in the UK, Poland and Schneiderbuch in Germany, Egmont Publishing has signalled its intention to expand its position as a publisher.
“We have a leading position in kids’ magazines in our 26 markets, and we plan to expand that business even further,” explained Torsten Bjerre Rasmussen, ceo of Egmont Publishing. “Our ambition is to be the best licensing partner for world leading licensors. Nothing has changed.
“Today, we are proud to have a strong partnership with great licensors like Disney, Mattel, Hasbro, Nickelodeon, MGA Entertainment and LEGO, and we have high ambitions for the future.”
As well as being a publisher of children’s magazines and comics, Egmont also invests in ecommerce and marketing services. This area of the business is also prime for expansion, the company believes.
Torsten continued: “For many years, we have been a very strong market leading kids’ publisher. The UK, Germany and Poland, together with the Nordics, are very important markets in our global strategy for magazines and will have a key role to play in the years ahead.
“We will continue to invest in excellent content and creative development in order to deliver high-quality magazines for young readers.”
The books publishing business in the UK, Poland and Schneiderbuch in Germany has been sold to HarperCollins, which took over the business from May 1.
