Disney and Pixar’s Turning Red celebrated with new merchandise

With the movie due to premiere on Disney+ on 11 March, shopDisney has unveiled a raft of merchandise to celebrate the arrival of Pixar’s ‘coming of age’ animation, Turning Red.

The hotly tipped film introduces us to Mei Lee, a confident, dorky 13 year old torn between staying her mother’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence.

Her protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming (voiced by Killing Eve star, Sandra Oh), is never far from her side and, to add in a further challenge, whenever Mei Lee gets too excited she ‘poofs’ into a giant red panda.

Turning Red is the first Pixar film to be solely directed by a woman – Academy Award winner, Domee Shi – as well as the first to take place in Canada and the second to feature an Asian lead character (after Bao).

Domee was inspired to write the film following her close relationship with her mother, the universal struggle of growing up and figuring out how to handle honouring your parents whilst staying true to yourself.

When it comes to merchandise, fans can pick up a Mei Lee Red Panda Plush, as well as a Turning Red mug, dressing gown, pyjama set and t-shirt via shopDisney.
