With the Lionesses having opened their account at the Women’s World Cup with a 1-0 win against Haiti, demand for memorabilia has been ‘roaring’ on eBay.
In classic fashion ‘England women’s shirt’ and ‘England bucket hats’ are filling baskets on eBay, with searches so far this year vs last increasing by 54% and 140% respectively for these supporter essentials on the marketplace (eBay UK search data 01/01/2023 to 12/07/2023 vs 01/01/2022 to 12/07/2022).
eBay has also revealed the player of the ‘Merch Match’ is Keira Walsh – who takes the number one spot for the player with the most covetable memorabilia, with searches for the goalkeeper soaring by over 2,600% this year vs last.
Searches for ‘Euros 2022 shirt’ are up 140% on eBay as fans look for tokens of the Lionesses’ win, which marked a step change in the already ramping support for the national team, while searches for ‘World Cup 2023’ are up 730%.
Fans are also turning to Panini cards to help fuel their passion for the team. Searches for the ‘Adrenalyn XI’ have seen a spike of over 70% this year versus last since Panini has released one of these decks for the women’s game for the first time. Searches for ‘World Cup 2023 stickers’, meanwhile, have spiked over 3,500% as collectors work to complete the set.
“Women’s football memorabilia is only going to rise in value as the sport continues to grow in popularity and fans flock to eBay to get their hands on a piece of sporting history,” commented Dominic Thurlow-Wood, head of sports memorabilia at eBay. “Following the Lionesses’ immense success in 2022 we’ve seen a huge increase in interest in a wide range of women’s football memorabilia on eBay. Looking ahead to their first game in Brisbane, we’re already seeing spiking searches for trading cards and shirts from their past iconic matches.”
