Crunchyroll kick starts 2020 with The Junji Ito Collection

Company adds partners for horror anthology from manga artist, Junji Ito.

Anime brand Crunchyroll has kicked off the New Year by welcoming further additions to the licensing drive for The Junji Ito Collection, the horror anime anthology from manga artist, Junji Ito.

The brand enjoyed something of a breakout year in 2019, with licensing campaigns across key categories and a slew of appearances and new series announcements.

Crunchyroll has added two new partners including a publishing campaign with IDW Publishing for a full line of Junji Ito artbooks, colouring books, board games and tarot cards among other products, launching in late 2020/early 2021.

In addition, Funko will create Pop Vinyl figurines, toys, pins and consumables.

“Over the last year, we’ve seen anime continue to be a powerful force in popular culture and The Junji Ito Collection, with its unique take on the macabre, was no exception,” said John Leonhardt, head of consumer products at Crunchyroll. “Through the beautiful and terrifying, this collection of scary stories has inspired lines of apparel, skateboards, toys, games and more.

“We look forward to providing fans around the world with a whole new line of Junji Ito merchandise to enjoy in the year ahead.”

2020 is also due to see the debut of Junji Ito’s Uzumaki as an animated series on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim channel.
