CBeebies snaps up new Andrew Davenport series

Moon and Me is the eagerly awaited show from the In the Night Garden & Teletubbies co-creator.

Andrew Davenport – the co-creator of preschool hit shows In the Night Garden and Teletubbies – has revealed his latest series, with CBeebies immediately pledging its support.

Kay Benbow, controller of CBeebies, has commissioned Moon and Me from Andrew’s Foundling Bird and Sutikki, the new kids and family division of Bento Box Entertainment.

Co-founded by Andrew Kerr and Irene Weibel, previously vp and head of Nelvana Studio, Sutikki is serving as the primary production, merchandising and non-UK distribution partner for Moon and Me.

Pre-production has begun at multiple locations in the US and in the UK.

Moon and Me – which will begin airing on CBeebies in early 2018 – is inspired by tales of toys that come to life when nobody is looking. It is described as a ‘comical story of a special friendship between two characters from completely different worlds’.

Andrew Davenport (pictured) said: “I’m thrilled – over the moon – at this commission from CBeebies to create an innovative preschool series that will honour the heritage of our previous work together.

“The time is right for a new approach to preschool storytelling and – like In the Night Garden and Teletubbies, ten and twenty years ago respectively – Moon and Me will pioneer new production techniques to create the highest standard of quality programming for the CBeebies audience.”

CBeebies’ Kay Benbow added: “Moon and Me is a delightful new series with charming stories and innovative production techniques that will really resonate with our viewers and support their creative development.”

Sutikki’s Irene Weibel continued: “As Sutikki’s first production, and Bento Box Entertainment’s official entry into the kids’ space, we set the bar extremely high by teaming with the best in the business.”
