Major increase in licences on show floor in 2016 thanks to key movie and TV lines.
This month’s UK Toy Fair will once again see a marked increased in the amount of licensed product on show – thanks to the influence of a raft of big name film and TV properties.
With recent NPD figures underlining the major role that licences are currently playing in the toy market, this year’s show is shaping up to be more important than ever.
“There was a surge in sales of Star Wars licensed products ahead of the film launch at the end of 2015, and this is a trend that is set to continue well into 2016,” said Majen Immink, head of Toy Fair operations and sales.
“But there are also lots of other children’s (and adult) favourites returning in 2016 including Finding Dory, Teletubbies, Noddy, Angry Birds and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to name a few, which will undoubtedly have a huge impact on the toy industry and the show itself.”
In 2015, the show acted as the launchpad for several new licensed lines, including toy ranges for The Clangers and Thunderbirds Are Go. Product for Paddington, Frozen and Minions was also particularly evident on the show floor.
This year’s show will run from Sunday January 24 to Tuesday January 26 at London’s Olympia.
