BrownTrout kicks off I Like Birds licensing drive

Calendar publisher becomes first licensee for bird-themed card and gift brand.

JELC has kicked off the licensing programme for bird-themed card and gift brand I Like Birds, signing up BrownTrout Publishing as the first licensee.

The company will create a range of 2018 calendars for the UK, rolling out from Q3 2017.

I Like Birds – co-founded by Stuart Cox and Alison Blair – was a finalist at last year’s License This competition at Brand Licensing Europe, signing up with JELC soon after.

Founder and md Jane Evans, who was on the License This judging panel, was struck by the commercial potential of the design work and offered to put her branding and licensing expertise behind it.

“A major deal with a market-leading calendar publishing company that has a reputation for innovation and quality is a great way to build on the popularity of I Like Birds for a UK-wide market,” Jane commented.

“It brings this wonderful, original and very well-received design brand to a larger stage, on which I am convinced it will shine.”

Stuart added: “We started out with a great idea and modest resources, but were always convinced that I Like Birds had the originality and commercial potential to build on its existing market.

“We are thrilled that Brown Trout and JELC feel the same way and are delighted to be working with them.”
