New range will draw inspiration from museum’s Ancient Egypt and Asia collections.
The British Museum is continuing to build up its licensing programme – signing up fabric specialist Arley House to create a new range inspired by its Ancient Egypt and Asia collections.
Each image will be reproduced onto a wide variety of luxury printed linens, cottons and velvets suitable for cushions and upholstery.
The range is set to launch at Decorex 2016, which is the biggest interior design event for trade and consumers in the UK. It is due to be held in Syon Park, Middlesex from September 18-21.
It will then be available via a network of UK-wide interior designers and specialist design retailers, as well as the Arley House showroom in Cheshire and online.
Adrian Tratalos, md at Arley House, said: “The British Museum cares for beautiful and iconic objects that tell the history of the world over millions of years. What better match for a company that sees itself as the home of historical art in design.
“We are delighted to be partnering with the British Museum on this wonderful range.”
Craig Bendle, manager of merchandise licensing at the British Museum, added: “This exquisitely produced range will bring unique and stylish new looks not only to fabrics and cushions but to room schemes and homes. Arley House has done a wonderful job of reproducing and adapting some of the British Museum’s most iconic objects.”
Ian Mallalue, ceo of the British Museum’s licensing agent, TSBA Group, concluded: “This collection combines beautiful fabric and details from British Museum objects brought together by the skills of the Arley House design team. I’m sure it will enjoy a very strong response from specialist retail across the UK.”
