Brands with Influence picks up rights to children’s book series, Albert

The author and illustrator of children’s book series Albert – Ian Brown and Eoin Clarke – have appointed Brands with Influence to manage the worldwide merchandise and licensing programme.

The Albert series of books have captured the imagination and interest of children across the UK and beyond, and are now being turned into an animated TV series by animation studio 3Megos. The books follow the stories of Albert and his garden friends as he discovers the world.

Author Ian was inspired to write the book series by his own pet tortoise, also called Albert.

“After 40 years of trying to get all sorts of books published, my life changed when real Albert went upside down in the garden,” Ian commented. “As I gently turned him right way round an idea came to me. Working with Eoin and teaming with publishers Graffeg, led to the first picture book, Albert Upside Down. Less than four years later we have eight Albert picture books, three board books and an activity book and we recently heard that picture book Albert and the Flood is nominated for a Yoto Carnegie Medal.

“Teaming with Brands with Influence is an extra cherry on a supersize pile of icing. Both Eoin and I are very excited about working with the expertise of BWI and the future for Albert. Dare I say it’s TORTally something to SHELLebrate.”

Martin Lowde, ceo at Brands with Influence, continued: “We fell in love with Albert the moment we first saw the books. Wonderful storytelling and beautiful illustration led us to think how can we help build this brand with children across media. We shared the series with our sister company 3Megos, and the animation and writing teams completely fell for Albert’s charm.

“Now, as the series is in development, we are beginning to work with key licensing partners on developing great products. Albert’s inquiring mind and kind personality make him a perfect hero for preschoolers and young readers. We are delighted to be working closely with Ian and Eoin on this exciting new opportunity.”

3Megos has produced a trailer for the new Albert animation series and will be sharing it at the upcoming Kidscreen Summit in San Diego. Brands with Influence is also continuing discussions with key master toy partners.
