Company to publish range of titles based on Jackie and Beano brands.
A new range of titles based on the Jackie and Beano brands is on the way from Bonnier Publishing, Beano Studios has confirmed.
Studio Press – which is an imprint of the Kings Road Publishing division of Bonnier – will work with Beano Studios to create ranges for the DC Thomson brands.
The deals were brokered by David Riley from David Riley Consulting.
The non fiction publishing programme for Jackie will aim to offer the best of the brand’s heritage, including the Cathy and Claire problem page and the infamous Photo Love Stories.
The first title will arrive in 2018.
Helen Wicks, creative director at KRP, said: “Jackie was the magazine for generations of young women. As such, it holds a special place in so many people’s hearts. We are thrilled to be bringing this much-loved, iconic brand to Kings Road Publishing.”
Meanwhile, the Beano programme will feature a range of young fiction, nostalgic annuals, joke books and gift titles, with the first title arriving at the end of 2017.
Emma Scott, chief executive of Beano Studios, added: “We’re delighted to be working with King’s Road Publishing to take Beano’s much loved characters to a brand new audience.
“We were so impressed with the enthusiasm and creativity of the team, and the sense of fun that they brought to the pitch – perfect for this iconic British brand. Beano celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2018, and Bonnier’s publishing is part of a wave of exciting Beano Studios projects coming up.”
