Show kicks off with accolades for Peppa Pig, Barbie, Smurfs and Trolls among others.
Bologna Licensing Trade Fair begins today (April 3) and for the first time, the show has honoured a number of brands with a new set of awards.
The Bologna Licensing Awards 2017 recognise the best projects to develop licensed products during the 2015-2016 period in Italy.
There are four categories – Preschool, Kids, Teens and Adults – while the judges also added a Special Prize and two Special Mentions.
Peppa Pig was awarded the preschool category (managed in Italy by ETS Studios), with reference to a promotional project developed with Costa Crociere.
Grani & Partners picked up the Kids prize for the collectable Rollinz, a brand loyalty project developed by Esselunga; while Barbie picked up the Teens award (managed in Italy by Victoria Licensing & Marketing on behalf of Mattel), with reference to a project with Tezenis.
Finally, the Adult category was won by The Smurfs (managed in the territory by TLC CAA – Global Brands Group).
The Special Prize was awarded to Despicable Me and the Minions franchise – which was handled by CPLG Italy for the period – for ‘the total transversal nature of the target’.
A Special Mention for retail was given to Trolls (managed by Planeta Junior Italy), while Nickelodeon’s PAW Patrol was given a Special Mention for IP revelation of the year.
The winners were selected by a panel of industry experts including Francesca Ash, founder of Total Licensing; Ivan Colecchia, European general manager of Kidz Global; Daniela Di Maio, kids entertainment consultant; Armando Garosci from Largo Consumo; and Roberta Nebbia, Italy’s LIMA representative and director of Licensing Italia.
Bologna Licensing Trade Fair runs from April 3-5 alongside the Bologna Children’s Book Fair.
