Bloomsbury has unveiled a year-long campaign to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 2022.
The paperback edition of the book will be updated with silver foil in January for the anniversary, reported The Bookseller, while Harry Potter Book Night celebrations in February will have a ‘Magical Journeys’ theme. Promotions will also be running around World Book Day.
February will also see the launch of the Hogwarts House Editions Box Sets, four house-themed packages including the entire Harry Potter series in paperback.
A paperback edition of Chris Riddell’s illustrated The Tales of Beedle the Bard – with a new cover and an exclusive art print of Harry, Ron and Hermione – will follow in March.
A commemorative hardback edition featuring the original cover design from 1997 will be published in June including new bonus material.
There will also be a large outdoor installation, with Bloomsbury working with fans to generate content for a video and social media campaign, The Bookseller continued.
Celebrations will continue to Harry Potter’s birthday on 31 July and extend to Back to Hogwarts celebrations in September.
The book had an initial print run of just 500 copies when it first published in 1997. The series has gone on to sell over 500 million books worldwide in more than 80 languages.
