Relaunch of iconic British retailer could eventually benefit licensing business.
One month after the brand closed its doors on the high street, BHS is to return this week as an online retailer.
It will relaunch on Thursday (September 29), initially focus on homewares, before adding clothing ranges, as well as kitchen and dining products over the upcoming weeks.
The new streamlined operation is owned by the Qatari conglomerate Al Mana Group, which bought the BHS brand, BHS.com and the international operations in June.
Online news reports over the weekend stated that it will be run by David Anderson, previously head of international at BHS, with most of the 84-strong workforce made up of former BHS employees.
BHS.com will focus on former BHS bestsellers – as well as bedding and lighting, new clothing ranges will launch in November.
Licensing was a key part of the high street retailer’s offer, with many licensees lamenting its departure.
Its re-emergence online is sure to be welcomed, with potential for licensing lines – in particular apparel – to be added further down the line.
