Betting on next James Bond soars as new film nears

James Norton, Sam Heughan, Richard Madden and Idris Elba among the front runners to take over from Daniel Craig.

With Daniel Craig’s final outing as James Bond approaching – with No Time to Die hitting cinemas in April – betting on who will slip on the famous tuxedo next has soared.

BoyleSports reports that it has seen an increase in activity for the next 007 over the last couple of weeks as the hype over the new film increases.

The support last Friday – February 14 – arrived for English actor Idris Elba who has been cut into odds of 11/2 from 10/1 to take on the role.

The speculative bets have placed Idris as the fourth favourite in the betting with just three other potential candidates in front on him. One of these is the 13/8 favourite, McMafia star James Norton. His odds have now been eased out from 11/8 but just a few weeks ago he was gambled in from 6/1 to play the next British spy.

Outlander favourite Sam Heughan (9/2) and The Bodyguard’s Richard Madden (5/1) are the other two ahead of Idris in the market, with Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy trimmed into 14/1 from 20/1 earlier in the week.

The odds on the next James Bond (according to BoyleSports) are as follows:

  • 13-8, James Norton
  • 9-2, Sam Heughan
  • 5, Richard Madden
  • 11-2, Idris Elba
  • 6, Jack Lowden
  • 6, Tom Hiddleston
  • 10, Michael Fassbender
  • 10, Tom Hardy
  • 10, Aidan Turner
  • 12, Chris Hemsworth
  • 14, Jamie Bell
  • 14, Cillian Murphy
  • 16, Henry Cavill
  • 25, Benedict Cumberbatch
  • 25, Jack Huston
  • 50, Kit Harrington
  • 100, Clive Owen
  • 100, James Purefoy
  • 100, Robert Pattinson
  • 200, Conor McGregor
  • 200, Colin Farrell
  • 200, James Corden
