‘Gifts They’ll Always Remember’ campaign sees brand collaborate with Penguin Ventures.
Heritage and lifestyle brand Barbour has launched its new Christmas campaign, which is based on The Snowman and The Snowdog.
The campaign is focused around a 60-second bespoke animation film, made by Lupus Films which, like the original, focuses on actions rather than words.
It tells the story of an adult Billy, the young boy from The Snowman and The Snowdog, remembering the year he was given a gift from Father Christmas. In a memory sequence, he is transported by The Snowman to his garden where he sees The Snowdog. Billy remembers that the gift that Father Christmas gave him was a dog collar. He puts it around The Snowdog’s neck resulting in a magical transformation.
The film ends by coming back to the present with an adult Billy, smiling and holding a dog in his arms with the caption ‘Gifts They’ll Always Remember’.
Damian Treece, brand manager for Snowman Enterprises at Penguin Ventures, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be partnering with Barbour for their Christmas campaign.
“The Barbour adaptation of Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas in 2011 was brilliantly conceived and continuing the creative journey through to The Snowman and The Snowdog felt like the perfect fit.
“The campaign brings together two iconic British brands, centering on the shared values of both Barbour and The Snowman. For the first time we have developed custom animation outside of the original story arc of The Snowman and The Snowdog and we can’t wait to see the response.”
Penguin and Barbour’s social media channels, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest Tumblr and You Tube will promote the campaign using the hashtag #barbourchristmas and shortened versions of the animation film. A series of blog content inspired by the film will feature throughout November and December on barbour.com.
From November 14, Barbour’s retail stores will promote the campaign through point of sale, windows, in-store gift tables and exclusively designed carrier bags. Books and DVDs of The Snowman and The Snowdog will also be on sale.
Paul Wilkinson, director of global marketing at Barbour, commented: “We are delighted to be working with Snowman Enterprises to bring our Christmas campaign to life.
“Dogs are such an important part of the Barbour way of life that we knew that an association with The Snowman and The Snowdog would appeal to our customers.”
