Barbie gets stylish with River Island collaboration

Retailer teams with brand for first time on kids collection to mark 60th anniversary.

Barbie is teaming up with River Island for a new kids’ collection in celebration of the fashion doll’s 60th anniversary.

The collaboration marks the first time Barbie has worked with the high street fashion retailer.

The range has been inspired by dance and streetwear, with a monochrome and pink theme throughout paying homage to Barbie’s original iconic outfit.

Launching tomorrow (November 12), the collection – which is aimed at ages 0-12 – includes a black hoodie with a holographic print and the Barbie logo, matching pink logo tee, leggings and a one-sleeved dance-inspired top. There is also a graphic top emblazoned with the Barbie slogan ‘You Can Be Anything’.

“We have had an exciting year of activity for Barbie in the iconic brand’s 60th anniversary celebrations,” said Gemma Daniels, softlines manager at Mattel UK. “We’ve expanded the franchise appeal across partners in fashion, homeware, stationery and more.

“The River Island collaboration is part of a strategic move to offer kids apparel with fashion-forward collaborators.”
