Argos flexes licensing muscles with Nick tie up

Retailer will exclusively launch Lily’s Driftwood Bay toy line on Friday July 15.

Argos has teamed up with Nickelodeon and Sixteen South for the exclusive launch of the Lily’s Driftwood Bay toy line on Friday July 15.

Speaking to The Source at the Argos Christmas showcase this week, Colin Williams, creative director at Sixteen South (pictured) said that three lines would be available – a Lily and Gull combo set, plus smaller versions of the Lily and Salty characters.

“We didn’t compromise in any part of the production of the show, so it was important that if there were ever going to be toys, they would follow suit,” Colin said. “They have a traditional feel and we felt this was the right approach for now.”

Complementing the arrival of the toy line – which was created by Golden Bear – Argos is also running an exclusive competition, asking children to create a new Lily’s Driftwood Bay character.

The winning entry will be animated into an episode of Lily’s Driftwood Bay, which will be broadcast on the Nick Jr network of channels.

The winner’s name will appear in the show credits and they will also receive a Lily’s Driftwood Bay prize pack – including a one off of the character made by Golden Bear.

Five runners up will also receive prizes, with the competition open until Friday August 12.

Colin continued: “We’re really excited to see what great ideas they have for new characters.

“Our aim was always to tell stories and the fact we’re here today is a lovely bonus. It’s a nice result of the show working on air.”

The competition will be supported by a TV ad slot across the Nickelodeon network, which can be viewed below.
