Activision Blizzard Studios shows film ambitions

Movies based on brands such as Skylanders move closer with new appointment.

Activision Blizzard Studios has hired a former Hollywood movie producer to help turn its roster of properties into films.

Stacey Sher has joined the company as co-president. She will be co-leading the new studio with former Disney executive, Nick van Dyk. Together they will look at how to create TV series and films based on properties including Skylanders, Call of Duty, Diablo and StarCraft.

Stacey has produced more than two dozen major movies, including Quentin Tarantino’s most recent film, The Hateful Eight.

She is a two-time Academy Award nominee, most recently for Django Unchained and also for Erin Brockovich, starring Julia Roberts and Albert Finney.

“As its large and loyal fan base can attest, Activision Blizzard has created franchises that mean so much to audiences over the course of 35 years,” commented Stacey.

“I’m excited about our mandate to create filmed entertainment based on Activision Blizzard games that is as great as the games themselves.”
