‘Toys to life’ bright spot in GAME results

Category including LEGO Dimensions and Skylanders is up 25% for half year.

Video games retailer GAME has seen its revenue and profits slip in its 2015/16 half year results, although the toys to life category – which includes a number of licences – has been a bright spot.

The high street retailer said that overall group results were impacted by a ‘challenging UK market’. GAME posted adjusted EBITDA of £33.1 million (2015: £43.0m), although this was ahead of the guidance of £30 million it had provided in January.

However, the accessories, toys to life and other (including multiplay) category saw a sales increase of 25% for the 26 weeks to January 23.

GAME is continuing to push toys to life throughout the Easter period – it is offering two for £15 on selected Disney Infinity 3.0 figures (including Star Wars and Frozen), while new level and fun packs for LEGO Dimensions are being highlighted, along with new drivers and vehicles for Skylanders.

In addition, GAME’s Easter catalogue also sees it highlighting licensed clothing and accessories, including exclusive Pokémon tees among other items.
