Netflix eyeing push into video games?

A move into the arena for the streaming giant is reported to be on the cards.

Netflix is reportedly planning to push into the video games market, with the streaming giant having approached game industry executives about the project, according to The Guardian.

The newspaper referred to reports from tech news site the Information and Reuters, which stated that Netflix ‘has been approaching senior game industry executives about joining it to lead the creation of a subscription games service’.

Speculation has been rife on several websites about the move, with a number citing a statement which Netflix sent to Techradar confirming it was “excited to do more with interactive entertainment”.

The streaming service has previously licensed some of its in-house properties including Stranger Things and The Dark Crystal to developers to create tie-in games in the past.

In addition, it has also enjoyed success with a range of ‘interactive movies’ such as Black Mirror: Bandersnatch which use simple video game mechanics and mild interactivity to create an accessible experience.
