SEGA Europe teams with Creating Tomorrow’s Forests

Video games company is planting one tree for every employee as it looks to inspire positive environmental change.

SEGA Europe teamed up with Creating Tomorrow’s Forests to mark last week’s World Earth Day (22 April).

The video games company – best known for its Sonic the Hedgehog character – is planting trees, with each one representing one of its employees.

The trees will be planted in Somerset on a former agricultural site that is now being transformed into a woodland habitat by tree planting experts, Creating Tomorrow’s Forests. The site was designed with biodiversity in mind, featuring a central pond and a variety of native broadleaf trees to attract a rare mix of plant and wildlife species.

The woodland is named after the founders’ daughter, Charlotte, who turned one in January (pictured above).

“We hope this will encourage other companies to get involved in this concerted effort to help reduce the carbon footprint of big businesses,” commented Gary Dale, ceo at SEGA Europe. “We also hope this will inspire our own teams to be more environmentally conscious.

“Creating Tomorrow’s Forests are actively trying to make a difference in building a sustainable future for our woodlands, and we are delighted to play a small part in that.”

Creating Tomorrow’s Forests and its sister company, Tomorrow’s Forests, has planted over eight million trees in the UK over the past six years. With growing concern for the environment and snowballing support from businesses, it expects to plant at least two million more by 2023.
