CBBC unveils new-look logo

First makeover in nine years means logo can now perform in a variety of digital spaces.

The BBC has unveiled a new logo for its CBBC channel – retiring the familiar green and black decals for a new ‘colourful and versatile’ identity.

The new-look means that the logo can now work better in a constantly shifting media landscape, according to CBBC controller Cheryl Taylor, who described the new brand identity as “bright, mischievous and sophisticated”.

Cheryl admitted that the new logo didn’t “scream ‘Children’s TV'”, but that its various iterations had a broad appeal.

“Our new look has an important job to do in removing barriers and helping us connect to the widest possible audience,” Cheryl explained.

“It offers a badge of quality that our older viewers can appreciate as much as younger ones. Though many watch our more mature shows well into adolescence, we know that as children grow up they feel compromised by overtly childish associations.”

A series of new channel idents have launched to accompany the fresh logo, while it will also work better in a variety of digital spaces.

Cheryl continued: “We work hard to inspire and enable children with our broad range of TV programmes and digital experiences, and we love to portray as many of our audience onscreen as we possibly can.”
