Billabong brand teams with Dr Seuss for Earth Day inspired collection

Apparel collection features iconic artwork and eco-friendly materials to mark 50th anniversary of Earth Day.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day (which took place on April 22), Billabong has teamed up with Dr Seuss for a new apparel collection.

The new apparel and boardshorts collection features iconic artwork from the children’s book author, and will arrive in five product drops between April and July, ready for fans to wear when they can enjoy the beaches and outdoors once more.

In total, the Billabong x Dr Seuss collaboration will comprise of more than 30 pieces and will aim to inspire environmental activism and the enjoyment of the great outdoors.

As a special activation for Earth Day, Billabong has also released a Dr Seuss-inspired boardshort made from recycled plastics and – for the first time ever – CiCLO technology in its high performance fabric.

The patent pending technology is an enzyme that helps close the loop and reduce plastic pollution.

The collection has also been endorsed by members of Billabong’s elite surf athlete team including Jack Freestone (pictured) in promotional content advocating ocean conservancy among other themes.

“The fashion-forward and eco-friendly styles of Billabong will resonate well with Dr. Seuss fans young and old,” said Susan Brandt, president of Dr Seuss Enterprises. “It’s the type of collaboration that we like to work on as it is a great way to share the magic of Dr. Seuss well beyond the page, and the Lorax line is also true to the message put forth in the book.”

Evan Slater, vp of global marketing at Billabong, added: “We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Dr. Seuss team for the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. “The art (and message) from The Lorax not only had lasting positive impact on multiple generations, it remains more relevant now than ever.”
