Mattel secures Halo licensing deal

New toy line for video games franchise on show at New York Toy Fair.

The Halo video games franchise has been a fixture of the Mega Brands construction toy line-up for a number of years, but now the property is set to get an extra boost following the signing of a master licensing agreement with Mattel.

343 Industries – which makes the Halo toys – has secured the deal for the $5 billion franchise.

To date, the Halo consumer products range has generated more than $1.5 billion and includes action figures and clothing among other lines.

The new line was unveiled at the New York Toy Fair over the weekend. It ranges from MEGA Bloks construction and blasters, through to action figures and radio controlled vehicles.

“The success we’ve seen with the Halo MEGA Bloks franchise over the years laid the foundation for this partnership,” said Bonnie Ross, Microsoft corporate vp and head of 343 Industries.

“We’re excited to work with Mattel to bring innovative, quality and, most of all, fun products to old and new Halo fans alike.”

Joe Lawandus, svp of design and marketing, Toy Box at Mattel, added: “We’re excited to expand our relationship with Halo and 343 Industries to create and collaborate on a broad range of multi-category toys and collectables.

“From MEGA Bloks to blasters, action figures to radio controlled vehicles, our new line for 2016 features something for Halo fans everywhere.”
